The codex is speculative fiction; the lineage documented below is real.
The record’s anchor is China’s State Council ‘Planning Outline for the Construction of a Social Credit System’ (June 2014, covering 2014–2020) — a framework of credit records, court-defaulter blacklists, and inter-agency data sharing. The Western image of a single citizen score has never existed as described; scholars who read the Chinese-language record found fragments, pilots, and blacklists. The codex’s page prints both the document’s contents and the mythology’s enlargement of them.
The Grid chapters and panels cite the 2014 outline by name as the plan’s public proof of concept. The Grounded Edition’s note: the outline is real; the universal score is the mythology’s overlay; the distance between them is measurable and shown.
