The Directorate

The codex’s invented cabinet: twelve seats, each one a front of the plan made flesh. Every figure here is fictitious — drawn, dossiered, and labeled as such — and every file ends in The Record: the documented technique the character embodies. The mythology is invented; the record is real; and the two are never allowed to pretend to be each other.

The Directorate is the codex's invented cabinet. Every figure is fictitious; every name was checked against the live record before filing; every portrait is an artist's rendering made for the archive. Any resemblance to any real person, living or dead, is coincidental and unintended. Each file ends in THE RECORD — the documented technique the figure embodies — because the codex's rule holds here too: the mythology is invented; the record is real.
