“Welcome to 2030” is a 2016 essay by Danish politician Ida Auken on the World Economic Forum’s content platform — a first-person thought experiment about a future city of shared services. A WEF video distilled it into the phrase “you’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy,” and the canon has quoted it as a plan ever since. The essay is real; the plan is not in it.

A day in 2030 written as a diary: no car, no appliances, everything as a service. Auken’s stated frame was a scenario to provoke discussion — and she appended, at publication, that it was not her preferred future.
The WEF’s 2016 predictions video listed, among eight forecasts, “You’ll own nothing. And you’ll be happy” — a distillation of Auken’s essay. The sentence detached from the thought experiment and became the canon’s most successful slogan.
Reuters’ February 2021 check traced the phrase to the essay and the video, confirmed it was never a WEF policy or goal, and documented Auken’s own clarification. The correction sits in this Library beside the essay — the pair is the codex’s teaching example.

The codex’s panels quote ‘own nothing’ as the plan’s sales pitch; the Grounded Edition pairs the panel with the essay, the video, and the fact-check. The point of the page is the lifecycle itself: essay → slogan → evidence → correction → canon.

Because it is the cleanest documented lifecycle in the whole canon: a text, a distillation, a viral slogan, a correction. The codex teaches the lifecycle, not the slogan.
